Where Is the New La Football Stadium Being Built
Inside SoFi Stadium: Cost, capacity & more to know about Los Angeles Rams & Chargers new home

When the Rams and Chargers abandoned their respective cities to relocate to Los Angeles in 2016, they did so without new stadiums to move into. The rush to get out of St. Louis and San Diego, respectively, was apparently more pressing than waiting for the construction of venues fitting for NFL franchises.
The Rams spent the past four years playing at 74-year-old Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, while the Chargers for the past three years were even worse off, competing at the limited capacity Dignity Health Sports Park.
Both Los Angeles teams will enjoy nicer digs in 2020 as they begin play at their shared SoFi Stadium, which officially opens for football this weekend.

SoFi stadium is one of two massive football structures unveiled this year. Las Vegas is welcoming the Raiders to the desert with freshly built Allegiant Stadium.
As the Rams and Chargers attempt to strengthen their footprints in LA and connect with fans following their moves, they are banking on SoFi Stadium to be an attractive selling point to local fans.
Here's a full breakdown of SoFi Stadium, including photos and features from the new venue:
How much did SoFi Stadium cost to build?
SoFi Stadium cost more than $5 billion of private money to complete — a staggering total that's difficult to put into perspective. If Rams owner Stan Kroenke gave $15 to every citizen in the United States, it still wouldn't quite add up to the amount he shelled out for SoFi Stadium.
How long did construction take?
From breaking ground in November 2016 to its official event opening in 2020, the process of building SoFi Stadium took almost four years.
Where is SoFi Stadium stadium?
SoFi Stadium is located in Inglewood, Calif., which is part of Los Angeles County.
SoFi Stadium capacity
The stadium's capacity for NFL games is a shade over 70,000, but it can be maxed out with additional seating for bigger events like concerts at about 100,000.
Special features of the new Rams and Chargers stadium
As with most modern stadiums, the size and technological advancement of the videoboard are primary bragging points. SoFi Stadium's videoboard is 70,000 square feet and 120 yards long.
5G high-speed internet, an indoor-outdoor design with plazas surrounding the main structure and abundant retail space are also key components of the multi-billion dollar facility.

What is SoFi Stadium named for?
Finance company SoFi, short for Social Finance Inc., will pay a reported $400 million over 20 years for naming rights.
Will SoFi Stadium host the World Cup and Olympic Games?
It's widely expected that the venue will host part of the 2028 opening and closing ceremonies for the Summer Olympic Games, and it is also expected to be a lead contender for hosting World Cup matches in 2026.
Additionally, SoFi Stadium will host the 2022 Super Bowl and 2023 College Football Playoff championship game.
